Really cool old building. The quality of the water is a bit odd. Also, I'm not sure I like the 'old' effects you've added here. Perhaps in this case it seems like they detract instead of add to the overall feel of the image. I see where you were going, and maybe it just needs something more to make it really stand out.

In particular, in my above comment, I was referring to the 'noisy' (grainy) parts of the image. I do like the crumpled paper look... just thought' I'd specify.

I'd love to know the history of such a place...looks like it was added onto, newer roof, ect. Love those old mills. (assuming it's a mill?)

Someone else having a go at the texture thing? For me, it works here everywhere except in the water. Definitely 'old' though/

King said 2248 days ago:

This week I'm learning a lot about how much textures and desaturation can contribute to a photo's looking old, as in this case. This is nicely done, with an appropriate subject. I like the movement of the water in the river.

Not the best example this week (IMHO), but well done.

Very nice and enjoyable. The texture of the sky and the odd flow or texture in the water grab my attention more than the building... makes me wonder about them more than the building itself. I'd love to hear more about your technique.

This really was just for fun, the best example this week was without a doubt the SUBJECTIV Irish Castle that deservedly got featured. I took this photo of the mill a week ago and just started playing with it yesterday, not really with the intention of submitting it. I have never tried to age a photo so I just experimented.

I added a motion blur to the water because in an old photo the exposure would have been much longer than what I took with the digitial and the sharp water just didn't work. The grainy texture was a layer mask that I applied a film grain to and then stretched to 200% or so.

Ana, this is a mill in Huntingdon, Quebec that was built around 1834, it sits in the center of town.

@King, right back at ya... :-)

Nicely composed. I guess the image itself makes this relevant.

King said 2248 days ago:

Very good work, Tracy. I like the trees to the right. Nice touch. And I agree about the water calling for a bit of blur.

TracyMartin said 2248 days ago:

King, I wouldn't have played around with this or submitted it if it wasn't for your shots and experimentation, so thanks.

Flatline said 2248 days ago:

I like how the longer exposure gives it that old-timey shot as the water flattens out. But the treatment is a little too harsh. Also, the metal siding at the top takes away from the effect a little. But overall this is a good effort. Well done.
