Wow. Powerful image.

Vandrende said 945 days ago:

Strong image. A pity the framing is a bit too tight around the subject

MaximusM3 said 945 days ago:

Superb. Very period looking and moving. Love it.

A sad song. Bolivia? Very poignant photo.

@Williem de VL. Federico Fellini is dear to me. I don't have all his movies but in university I studied all of them. Today I have his music. Some of it gets me going in traffic under ground.

@ Wings

Looking at a lot of your images I realize there is some strong affiliation with French and Italian cinema of the fifties and early sixties. The same kind of honest roughness and social criticism.

I really like the way you show us what you see.

schaetz said 941 days ago:

high marks because there is a story here , as sad one but this pic can't leave us infifferent

schaetz said 941 days ago:

indifferent.
Le voleur de bicyclette (ladri di biciclette) de vittorio de sica, also , but this seems to me like have been shot in south america

wings said 941 days ago:

@schaetz, thanks. this image is special to me. It is one of the few that haunt me. I still hear the sound of this blind man playing down the empty stone streets. It was a cold early morning in the Andes, and my coffee sucked. I heard this weird string like screeching in the air. It was my excuse to stop drinking the coffee that might have cause other problems. So I followed the sound. I took three shots one as some would like to see the dull one from in the street looking at him, one where a military man passed by with a big gun and glared at me. This shot is where I was up on him The third and final shot. I did not want to awaken the child. And beside after the short stare down by the militia guy that was about enough to give up. What I have learned with men with guns is that you can't run or top. They are no different than a dog. You run they shoot, you die.

Because I am tall and the need for a powerful shot this was full from. Had I a ladder or was born 6-6 then I might have gotten his tow in and tip of his hat. Te image is now in the archives of the museum of the natural history in New York. When they do the show on the story f man it is apart of it. I know that when I die and 100 years have passed. My name will be alive and in the souls of a few that know and appreciate stories of man and how we struggled. Cheers no matter what this image speaks above all the rest today and in time to come. With tenderness grace can share mans hardships.

This is South America Peru

schaetz said 941 days ago:

thanks for taking the time to answer me it's very kind , (and this is not a form of adress i really mean it)
it is so rare to tell something, or to give something to really feel with a simple photography , and you achieved it perfectly with this shot . I can't stop my mind to imagine how life can be hard for this little guy, who gently sleeps beside his father
So i really don't care about the tow and the hat.
thank's

Willem_de_VL said 941 days ago:

Thank for the background story.

Excellent.

wings said 940 days ago:

@all WIll somone please put Halloween on the list to vote one. It would be silly to miss this as photographers don't we all think :))))))

Willem_de_VL said 940 days ago:

Hi Wings

You won't get much Halloween, from my part of the world... :-))

Still an interesting option to try and make something of it...

wings said 940 days ago:

@Wiillem de VL, that is where you get to be creative. Close your eyes and imagin something like a horro movie and go for it :")")))) booooooooo . Oh its my silly hour . I'm waiting for the sun. to come up.

Willem_de_VL said 940 days ago:

I'll have a look in the mirror in the morning...

:-)

wings said 940 days ago:

@Wiillem de VL, if you have to tip tope up to the mirro or sneak up on a glass of water and hold it still with both hands. Then you pass the test of being to frightening. ONly the most desperate women will consider you as a date. Which means she's inthe same boat as you. heheheheheh

Willem_de_VL said 940 days ago:

"Only the most desperate women will consider you as a date."
Or a blind screener...

BTW
I really think it's a shame this image of the blind fiddler didn't make the cut.
It's among the best material you've made

wings said 940 days ago:

@Wiillem de VL,, What Ihave learned is that it's people's choice. Just like one enjoys one master over an another. It's a lession one must learn to go forward. :) I have a long road to travel and I want to make sure I travel it along with any other side roads I discover when it comes to art.

hopefully people's choice is good (and mine is not bad!)
congrats

Willem_de_VL said 940 days ago:

Well well

The fiddler made it just before closing time :-)))

Beamer said 940 days ago:

This is a superb image!! It is an honor to call you my friend!!

wings said 940 days ago:

@Beamer, It's an honor to make friends and talk at times on the phone or skype, about photography and life. You have a lot to share and its great.

@Wilem de VL It's always great to share thoughts. AFter all that's what the masters did. They journaled an in doing so they grew as men and photographers in respect to life and the visual language.

Willem_de_VL said 940 days ago:

@ Wings

It's alway a challenge (and rewarding) to think about the images you show and the words you write.
And I'm glad you invited me...

Cheers
Willem

George said 940 days ago:

a truly remarkable image. a look into the soul of a man and a boy. and the photographer who had the touch. excellent.

ocean said 940 days ago:

The word "iconic" comes to mind. This seems more than a simple photo. Decisive moment!

wings said 940 days ago:

To Ocean and George. I am just a man in love with the richness of life. I've crossed more paths than I can count and with each crossing I have taken the time to encounter , may the shot come first or the silence followed by words. often we forget to absorb live at hand, but rather stay, see and say , "oh those poor people." I said that once in college. My best friend at the time corrected me. He said, "I don't know them, and that just maybe they are at the top of their world, while I am still struggling to find my own thrown." Just maybe he once saw music with his eyes and turned the pages at the end of a bar. Now this father plays by sound from the touch of his fingers pressing on the strings. This story is no different than I am in appearance to someone that see's me at first sight with out speaking to me on the phone. Right Beamer?

ocean said 940 days ago:

I see a man, living in trying circumstances, who is at that particular moment, ..."in the moment", at peace and at one with the music, momentarily transcended. Or as Jagger/Richards wrote: "Our love is like our music. Its here, and then, ...its gone".

wings said 940 days ago:

@ Ocean. That's a wonderful ph ilosophical way to see life pass. I'll think of that as I travel from dayto day. cheers

Karmen said 940 days ago:
