Perfect! True monochrome. Beautiful and graceful too.

beautiful.

crispin said 996 days ago:

Interesting abstract. Is it a building??

Beamer said 996 days ago:

Strong entry, nice lines and flow! A ranges of "hues" but works for me!

DebraV said 996 days ago:

I love the lighting!

ursula said 996 days ago:

@crispin, no, it's not a building, but a small stack of paper strips, taped together at one end and fanned out at the other. I put them on their side on an improvised light-table, and shot them at an angle.

I have no idea what it is but it is quite visually appealing. Excellent!

Oh Ursula! This one is just purple HEAVEN!!!! I just love it! (Well, I pretty much enjoy ALL your work, but I'm especially enjoying this purple one!)

Beamer said 996 days ago:

Congrats my lady!! Analogously beautiful image for sure!!

And yes, Mae, of course you like it because it's purple!! If I may hijack Ursula's thread for a moment, here's one I promise I'll post when we do duotone:

ursula said 996 days ago:

That's not a duotone, Clyde, but it's a beautiful iris with great light point thingies (bokeh). Is that Oregon grape leaves at the sides?

ursula said 996 days ago:

Or is it duotone? I really have no idea if it is or not. It's mainly purple and green. I thought duotone referred more to a printing process? Rats. I really don't know much about this.

Beamer said 996 days ago:

It's duotone in the same "natural" way that I consider my sunset shot monochrome. Sometimes hillbillies are literal and sometimes we are figurative!!

Don't know if they are Oregon grapes leaves, they were shot in Claremont at the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden near my house. I think it is some kind of holly. That photo is one of my fav's, it was shot with my D90 and the Nikon 60mm micro. That lens and camera combo is wonderful for giving a very dimensional feel to close/macro shots. I walk around a lot with that rig on a monopod, especially in settings like the Botanic Garden. The crop factor give you the ability to get pretty close without the telephoto compression of a 90 or 100 macro. The shot just fill a little more natural to me. When I was in the market for a macro lens, my friend Craig recommended it for that very reason. He is wise!! Probably one of the 2 or 3 best purchases I've ever made in photo gear!

FWIW, Clyde, I love your sunset picture and gave it high marks. It's very red, and I particularly like the red outlines of the leaves and flowers. To me, all the B/W work isn't exactly "monochrome" even though it is - it's a tricky one I guess. Pictures like yours, the sunset picture I mean, it does have other colours in it, but it feels red, red all over, even the yellows and purplish hues feel red. To me. That's a dumb explanation, but I think it might be a little what you were getting at with it. Maybe not. Anyway.

The best to you

This is awesome!

KPK said 994 days ago:

MOST beautiful abstract work!

Hihosilver said 990 days ago:

@Beamer...ummmm...although I love the FABULOUS purple...my eye betrays more colors than a duotone would suggest. However, the bokeh is just incredibly yummy. Well done!
