Hi, Evan...sorry to appear to be harsh. Is this your child?

I wish I could see what she's looking at. great tones & sharpness and I admire the unusual angle.

Hi King, no problem. Yes, it is my younger daughter. I realize the arm position is not ideal but is was a spontaneous grab, not posed. She was on the rocks waving to her imaginary minions, inspired by her position. I was trying to use the perspective to show her perspective and to capture her playfulness.
Being featured is nice but I also want to get some honest feedback.

I don't think that's a good place to practice your dives little lady! Cute, but not a lot of interest for me.

@Evan...I think you caught the mood perfectly and you should be happy with this. I'm just trying to live up to my new WeeklyShot self-description, "The Reluctant Curmudgeon."

I can hear her little voice scream out "watch me, watch me" and it makes me smile as I remember the voices of my children, her age, many years ago. A wonderful photo and the fact that her face is obscured allows viewers to imagine her one of their own. Wonderful story and very well 'told.'

For me, the picture is very nice, but I wish the tonal range (notice along the beach for instance) was brighter. It seems like the whole picture could be notched up a light level and have far greater impact.
mumbler said 993 days ago:
@King, keep up the good work then. I was thinking that perhaps you were looking at it from the point of view of a dancer who takes exquisitely controlled photographs of other dancers.
@lange, good point.

I like the mood, but the pose is totally unremarkable, even awkward, the way her left arm partially blocks instead of framing her face and the way her right arm disappears into the background. The foreshortening doesn't enhance the story either, in my opinion.
How do you think and feel about this image and the story behind it?
