Something keeps bringing me back to this image and I think it is the authenticity of it, very nice captured.

isn't everything featuring?

So happy this shot is being well received as I got to know the people in it.. especially the woman. They have an interesting story of how they met and came to feel such a close bond.

Out side of high marks, I see and understand something about the mother son impact in general. I'm not sure if you intended to make a portrait shot, or just show you can shoot people of color. I see two possible stories. One, the love for a son that has grown up and now faces the world with his skills , and will attempt wot walk on thin ice in society. Second, I see the mother that has now become the child, and at the same time connected to the male figure.

You need to choose a point of view. If this is a portrait. The shadows hurt and the camera position misses the real power which is found in the mother. She represents the trial and error and preservation of her son. I feel his chin hair needs a little fixing. If this is just a documentary Then it is all fine and serves to reflect on a human quality known as a bond. If I'm going to share my thoughts I want it to help not frustrate you with technical garbage. Technique is not photography. Technique is only a tweak to give a little clarity to the physical image and not the theme or purpose we shoot.

Thank you wings for such an in-depth critique - I took this shot some time ago and it's one of my favorites. Not well done from a technical point of view I agree but that wasn't my intention, it was the raw emotion I felt between the two - unrelated by blood but bonded by life's experiences.
I could have cleaned it up in photo-shop but choose not to for a variety of reasons .. It is not meant to be a pretty photo that is out to prove anything .. just a slice of life in the day of. Thanks again, Maggie

Such a natural and authentic moment. Raw emotion is evident in this. It is simply beautiful...a treasure.

So very human. There is an ethereal juxtapose to this image. I'll remember it for some time.

these expressions touch the heart with such...i'm not sure what word to use...truth, i guess. the raw and essential expression of the human bond is so very accessible in this photo. wow.
