This guy is in serious danger of being spread to the four corners of the earth! Wait! I can hear a noise, like a rumbling or something....

This one needs to be on the front page.

Unbeleivably cool! This makes this small caterpillar look the size of a rhinocerous.
I disagree with mooch about the angle. I think this is way more interesting than just a direct from above shot. However, I agree with mooch about the landscape. It doesn;t add to the impact IMHO, and without it, there would be even less context which would make this just that much more interesting to look at ;)
Thank you for giving me a whole new idea about how to set up a cool macro shot.

Super shot Kurt! (And Sigrid?) I love it.
For me, the background makes the image that much stronger. It's not just a macro but also a simple environmental piece. There's nothing distracting in the background (neither bright spots nor things too much in focus) to draw my eye away from the amazing details on the critter and the road.
Regardless, well done and congrats!

thanks a lot for all the interesting comments and encouraging statements! we appreciate them a lot.
For me the background really is essential.
@George: i removed some of the brighter spots in the background and darkened it a bit to bring the focus to the little guy. ;-)
thanks again and greetings from austria,
kurt

I see, Kurt. Cool :-) For me your choices work well. And greetings from California.

It's a good macro but not that exciting. Perhaps if shot from above thus giving that gravel as the backdrop would make for an excellent frame, I think for me it's the landscape that detracts slightly.
