hard to tell if this is a long exposure. great shot, though!

Yeah. I get it ;) That road is probably "buzzing" with traffic 24 hours a day, every day of the year. But none of the vehicle register because of the long exposure.

That's a cool ans subtle use of the long-exposure technique, and I think the same technique they used to use in old sci-fi films when they wanted to show deserted metropolitan areas (like after neutron bombs etc.).

So my questions are: 1) neutral density filter or night time exposure, and 2) how long was the exposure to make the traffic dissapear?

hans said 2494 days ago:

Yeah, you got it; this was a 30-second exposure with a B+W 113 neutral density filter, shot in the middle of the day. Tons of traffic, but it only registers as dark "burn" marks in the road.

I love this! What a great interpretation of the theme....I am definately going to try this!

Yeah... This is really cool. I can imagine this would be fun to do in Times Square with a really wide lens.

hans said 2456 days ago:

That reminds me... Trafalgar Square isn't too far away...

LBStone said 2456 days ago:

This technique would work really well for the current "silence" theme. :)

George said 2456 days ago:

Oh MAN. It's *perfectly* silent! Nice catch.

Hans, I'm hoping to see your version :)
