Humm, I get the concept, but I'm not a fan of theme images that capture other images.

Yes he is smiling, but I just don't get a huge sense of "joy" from a poster smiling at me. Also, I am not sure what purpose the background (trees, partially visible building, etc.) serves. It effectively distracts you from the part of this image that is kind of interesting.

IMHO if the subject is the poster, this might be more effective, and have a greater impact, if the entire frame was filled by the poster. Probably even better if the text part of the poster was not included in the image either.

As it is , this is a good example of "documentary" photography. It shows that this poster was once displayed at this location. It doesn't project any sort of emotion or cause any emotional reaction (for me at least). Not that every photo has to do that, but for a theme like "joy" it's kind of critical.

I always try to give honest comments/criticism. My intent is not to "bag" on this shot, but to offer some (hopefully) constructive input. I hope you don't take it personally ;)

I have always thought that picture of Roosevelt looked like a good image for happiness and and a jolly disposition. Therefore it seems fitting for the "Joy" category as well.

I love this type of composition...

I would line up the top edge of the poster to be parallel to the frame of the shot and I would darken the shot to reduce the hotspot above the poster. I love the compositional elements though. Neat idea!

Inventive use of theme. Could use a smidgen more contrast (a bit washed out IMHO) but otherwise extremely creative.
