Wow, I want that to be my kitchen. :)

My kind of kitchen!! The clock almost seems out of place...BUT it's a great old clock, so OK!
Beamer said 988 days ago:
Thelma, can we time share??
dennis said 988 days ago:
Your kitchen has a much nicer view than mine :P
Shame about the reflections in the glass which are a bit distracting.
Otherwise I quite like.
King said 988 days ago:
Shooting through glass? Great atmosphere--looks like a great place to dine and I'm jealous. The composition is a little clunky, but there may not have been much you could have done about it if you were on the other side of a window.

I know this picture has flaws, I just posted it because I think it is a quaint kitchen. I used to live there a few years ago.

I want that view from my kitchen!

King said 987 days ago:
@philippe...much better than mine.
philippe said 987 days ago:
It's a kitchen, isn't it?

@King: can't wait for the new rating system.
Could it be that some people are not rating honestly (laugh!)?
If you remember, I deliberately gave you 1's on one of your shots (well, not actually yours, but I didn't like the idea and I overeacted- mea culpa) and I wasn't smart enough to remain incognito. I did that ONCE.
The rest of the time, I try to remain honest: but what if an image is relevant, technically perfect and I don't like it? In that case I give average ratings, which won't stop the picture to be featured. But in that case I'm not following the benchmarks myself, like most people do, or so it seems... Maybe not following the rules is in the nature of the game itself...
philippe said 987 days ago:
... that said, I can understand why your picture was rated "not-so-relevant": it says "cake", not "kitchen".
Of course, if you think really hard, a cake is usually made in a kitchen, not in the toilets... But I'm afraid it's a bit too complicated.
Do you see what I mean? In one word: bullshit! :o)
King said 987 days ago:
@philippe...I'm with you.
From a statistical standpoint, Thelma has changed things for the time being by eliminating the variability in her ratings, assigning straight fives to all images as far as I can tell. However, if everyone assigned straight 5's no one image could stand out.
But the WS system is based on 13 ratings (a very small number, but a substantial proportion of WS members) and there seems to be adequate variability such that the average score is meaningful.
As you wrote, a 3 is a low enough score for a rater to express dissatisfaction with some category without condemning the photograph and, indirectly, the photographer to some ratings purgatory.
I like to be supportive of any honest effort to create a memorable photograph, so a 3 is about as low as I go with ratings. So while Thelma's system helps everyone, my 3-point scale helps only those images to which I assign 4's or 5's.
Otherwise, as you say, it's bullshit, just a (mainly) harmless online game.

I love this so much. Reminds me of a recent wonderful vacation. All high marks! Absolutely should see the front page! That clock is fantastic!
philippe said 987 days ago:
Thank you! You raised my score to 3.5 :o)

@King: just a game, yes, but words can be not so harmless sometimes...

Wow! I wish I had a view like that from my kitchen!
