Thanks Tyron. This is one of favorite images. I took this image this past April when King, George and Jarrett were up here visiting me. The story behind this image is very sad. The woman in this image was looking at another couple on Market Street as they were getting into their new Mercedes Benz. The woman who was getting into the car was looking at the woman in this picture.

This is a great shot. Looks like it should be in a book somewhere.

pursang said 2180 days ago:

It will be. This fall I have an exhibit and I will be publishing a book of the images. This may be the shot I'll use for the cover. Thanks again.

I say go for it and give me a free copy for the encouragement. Was that shameless or what. =)

Sorry, no free lunches! ;-)

Knowing who the photographer of this shot is doesn't lessen the impact or power of it. Incredible photo Mark.

Isolation of the woman to the left would have really made it for me.

woa what a wierd but most interesting pic..
cropped? can't really figure out the backround..mmh
somehow the details on the man is clearer than on the lady.
high marks

Tanja, in SF, the bus shelters are made of glass. They have frosted stripped glass against clear glass so that is what you're seeing in the background.

All 5's - one of my favourites!

The tale of the women's shared moment,
really adds a third dimension to this.
I pray the woman in this picture
has what she needs to get by.
And I pray Mrs.Mercedes appreciates what she has,
and is moved to share more of it.

Carl, it was indeed a moment. The woman entering the Mercedes gave this woman a look that was kind. I too have a strong opinion about what each of us offers back to society in terms of time, money and empathy. It's nice to know that you share those feelings.

It's truly amazing the people I have met both physically and virtually here and in other venues on the web. It truly has the made the world smaller and in many ways more intimate.

Thanks to each of you.

My hunch is that this works much better in b/w than in color. There are many patterns at textures competing for attention even in the absence of color. The fact that this works is, to me, a tribute to the face and the moment that you've captured here.

Aside from the compelling story, what do you like and dislike about this image?
