Beautiful exposure and resulting tonal range here. Not a whole lot of strength in the moment you chose to fire the shutter imo. The guys fumbling with his chair and the couple just tangent with the left edge of frame is not a strong compo to me.

Beamer. For the reason you dislike this, I love it.
:)

To say this I "dislike this" based on my comments is a bit of a stretch. I actually do like it. But fair enough. I get the same feeling a lot when I read the few comments that come these days!! Hint, the one I dislike I usually skip lately, or just make some lame comment to see other comments...

Sorry
I wondered if it is maroni (roast chestnust he is selling)
Ana said 941 days ago:
I love that he's fixing his chair and getting ready to sit down and start his daily life. I love that there are people walking out of the frame and going about their daily life- without concern for the man selling chestnuts.
It is so great that no one is standing there buying from him. It's great they're just all going about their days. If he were just sitting there.. hmmm..maybe powerful..perhaps not. We shall all see it differently.

I can smell the roasted chestnuts, even in B&W, yummy

Seriously have no idea why this rated so low for quality and technique!! I'd love some insight to that!!!
Ana said 941 days ago:
I mean.. I figured from the comments that people hated the actual shot, but the quality and technique too!? Really?
JeffBiset said 940 days ago:
Is it already chestnut time in Italy ?
JeffBiset said 940 days ago:
Agreed that quality and technique should be high. I rated 4 for both. The tone range is really very nice and subtile.
Imo some people use those technique and quality rating as a tool to feature or not a picture.
It happens to me that i don't like a picture so much but if i check each rating box, i have to put 4 or 5 everywhere.
Maybe a general rating should be added so that we can express our general feeling about a picture.
This one fits perfectly the theme. Daily life is not spectacular, it's made of little things that we can find in several places in your photo.
Should be featured then ...

and don't be pissed off. not the first time you don't understand your ratings i'm sure. Neither the last one ...

A favorite of mine in this theme. Daily life (and many years of it..) just oozes through this image and I feel a connection with the man with the chair. Superb.

ana, as you know people will undeservedly rate elements low if they don't like the image, don't want it to be featured, don't think it's relevant, etc. funny enough, it's what people do as they go about their daily lives on ws! go figure. i like this photo. but i do wish i could see his face more. the tones are lovely, but if i were to nitpick (may i?) it seems to me the old man's contrast against the background is low; consequently he doesn't "pop" out as much.

Boy, do I miss those "castagne al cartoccio" on the streets of Roma. Nice shot!
