Hmmm. 5 ratings and no comments so far...

Relevance is obvious and a sure 5. However, there is a general lack of contrast in the overall image and a lot of space that doesn't seem to be part of any "story," thus creating average visual impact.

It also has a look that makes me think the lighting was not very good when you took the photo and that you did your best to lighten dark shadows and to darken blown or nearly blown highlights. This tends to "muddy" fine detail and detracts from scores for technique and image quality. It also generally makes the original colors less attractive, making the photo a good candidate for conversion to black & white.

Average scores overall, but I think this could be interesting subject matter at the right time of day with the right light.

Oh ... Hi Beamer. When trying to decide what to write I was actually thinking about the Ayutthaya image that I tried to "save" in the last theme and was thinking back to your comments to me - which I had to agree with after reading your excellent feedback.

In a sense, it was partly because of your feedback that I commented the way that I did. Now I'm curious if I was right at all about the lighting, colors, etc.

Cheers! And again, thank you for your feedback previously. Honestly, it was helpful.

A very hazy day in LA as they have all been lately. The building in the distance in the LA City Hall and a very recognizable building. I deliberately included it to help tell the story this LA landmark. I took many shots of this in both color digital and the Tmax 100 that you see here. I really like this one because it look like the old disappears right into the new. The telephoto compression makes it look like the tracks go right into the building. I debated over which image to include, but yes none are with optimal lighting. That's the dilemma of trying to shoot something for the Theme and also work a fulltime job, you have to shoot when the time opens up instead of when the light opens up!! Nothing in this was blown out, the shadows under the train are solid black for sure. Maybe I didn't do a very good job of prepping this for web display, the full size image holds a lot of fine detail everywhere except under the train car.

Yeah, pretty frustrating to see the ratings click off and no comments!! Thanks for your interest as always. I really didn't expect this to do that well, it was fun shooting it, and that's enough for me!!

If anyone is interested this in know as the shortest railway in the world:

The trolley is interesting, but this comes off as a vacation snapshot since the next most interesting part of the picture is that building in the far distance. The wall and the bushes in the foreground aren't making this any more interesting to look at.

Was there another point in the trolley's path that could have had more interest for the casual viewer or the Weekly Shot rater?

Well I commented Beamer. I've seen your non-comment comments on the last few images I rated. I guess I get what those are about now.

Wow, was this taken pre 2001 or since March 2010? I know it was closed for a long time.
I tried running up the stairs alongside it once. Not good.
I like the vintage feel and City Hall in the background.

It was taken Saturday. Glad you got the City Hall inclusion!

The only thing that stops this being super cool for me is the trees in the foreground. I would see the geometry and lines of this shot as a strong point and the natural curves and angles of foliage takes away from that.

One question though - is that a train or tram? And if so does it move? Does it ever go on flat tracks? And why is the roof at an angle? It suggests it only ever goes on angled tracks?

Sorry - that was about 5 questions!

Richard, see link above...pretty good article even if Wiki!

This image I posted on my blog may give a little more context on this unusual little railway:

Oh! It's back in operation now! I like the composition and angle here.

kadenajack said 1017 days ago:

I really like the shot on the blog Clyde. I would have posted that one.

Yeah, hind sight tells me probably the same!! Although this scored a little higher than I thought it might, but still well below feature level.
