Very nice postcard view of a city I'd like to see someday.

Whilst I think there might be a small lack of sharpness as we move off into the distance, I still find myself gazing past the city and off into the hills, which I like :)

Well-composed city image and nice, deep colors. Details seem to be a little muddy, detracting somewhat from image quality and from overall impact. And given how nice the color already is, I think the additional vignetting was probably not necessary and detracts somewhat from the overall impact (if indeed it was added in post-processing).

Hi - so the muddiness/non-sharpness was due to the fact that this was a 10 second exposure and I hand held the camera against my hotel room window. Natural fall-off in the corners.

Anne, towels and pillows make a very good substitute for a tripod in a motel room. A rock or tree limb and your camera bag or backpack in the field will also work pretty well!!

Nice. I like this one a lot. I like the time of day. I like the clean look about it. I like the depth and the strong building on the right third. Very well done.

If I'm reading what Arne is saying right, he was holding the lens against the glass of the hotel room window to eliminate the reflections. I had to do that with the image I had featured this week too. You couldn't open the darn windows.

Lovely blues and cyans. The foreground needs a bit more focus though. And if this was my shot - I'd put it into Viveza or NX2 and drop a control point on that white building - the tall main one - to try and make it more white and pop more.

Possibly even reduce the vignette a bit. I like strong vignettes - but with a smaller area coverage - almost akin to an edge burn..

I've done some shots from hotels as well. Did one in HK from the 97th floor which my room was on.

Unfortunately you can't open the windows on rooms that high up - and glass is almost always dirty or reduces optical clarity.

I NEVER tire of my home city and when the Pyramid was being built there was SO MUCH CONTROVERSY over the shape/location/skyline change. Great perspective Arne and if you like SF imagery, check out Frederic Larson's work. He shot for the San Francisco Chronicle when Herb Cain wrote for the paper. His interpretations of SF are remarkable.

I keep coming back and looking at this Arne, it really is a beautiful shot of SF and I think that the white balance on the pyramid is pretty close to spot on, especially in that light.
