WTF? Why is there a rocket launching out of your city? What happened to the color in your world? I'm perplexed.

kadenajack said 1019 days ago:

I certainly didn't read this as a King image. Is that a bad thing?

birba said 1019 days ago:

Great composition

King said 1019 days ago:

The "rocket" is a 70's architectural feature of the building immediately beneath it (I moved i straight up). This is, of course, just a visual joke. I've had the idea in my head of having the "rocket" blast off, and I'm still not satisfied with it, so I've posted it here to see what falls out, comment-wise.

The exhaust flame is from my oxy-acetylene torch. The billowing gasses are just Texas clouds, repurposed for this image. The tonal values are supposed to look a little retro.

This is a combination of two 4x5 film images--one b/w and one color, blended (as layers in Photoshop) to get the effects I'm looking for.

@Jack...no, not a bad thing at all.

King said 1019 days ago:

@birba...thanks very much!

Thunderbirds are go!

Nice work, King.

PaulB said 1019 days ago:

I can go with the idea but I don't think this works so well - sorry.

mumbler said 1019 days ago:

Saw a version of this in the heat theme, the rocket detracts from the citiness, but otherwise high marks and you certainly don't need my comments.

King said 1019 days ago:

@Heath...thanks.
@PaulB...doesn't matter...just an experiment
@mumbler...I'm just using the "City" theme to try another version of this, so thanks.

Frightening thought. What if this happened, as you drove along the corn fields of Kansas. This reminds me of 911 in away.

Beamer said 1019 days ago:

Been waiting on this one to blast off!! Fun as always my friend!! I shot some transportation today, developing film now, stay tuned!

Wow. It will be interesting to see how this one plays with the group. :-) Looks like it could use more smoke in that gap on the lower left. Feels like it would be full.

RichardFord said 1018 days ago:

I like the idea - but I would have gone for a scene with buildings (sky scrapers) that are not complete and look like they are still being built. Then there would be a cool juxtaposition of "Soaring for the sky".

Interesting city photo. A launch of some kind...?

Anna said 1018 days ago:

Nice work, King! :)
A small suggestion. When one look at rocket or suttle launches, there is a small space between the suttle and the exhaustion flames. The one your rocket has is coming directly or almost from inside the rocket. I don't know if you understand what I mean with this rambling... :) And it might be a compleatly uninteresting suggestion also. :)

King said 1018 days ago:

@panhandlin...I've been experimenting with that, so thanks very much. This won't be the final version.

The scores on this are just under what it would take to be featured.

King said 1018 days ago:

@Anna...thanks. I'll take a closer look at some rocket exhausts.

Ana said 1018 days ago:

:)

King said 1018 days ago:

@Ana :(

Flatline said 1018 days ago:

King, your Photoshop skills are coming along nicely. Somewhere here is a Jor-El / Kal-El joke...

King said 1017 days ago:

@Flatline...thanks for the compliment and the high marks! This one acts like it's sitting on one end of a see-saw (teeter-totter). Ratings go up, ratings go down.

King said 1017 days ago:

@Anna..watched a shuttle launch on TV just last night. No space between ship and exhaust...not even a small space.

However, I know that the exhaust fumes below (steam, mainly) should display much more tempestuous, agitated and distinctly roiling masses of gas.
