The composition is a bit unsettling, and the top of the frame keeps pulling my eye away from the subject. Maybe too much crop off the top? (If there was more at the top originally?

I like it! High impact for sure. My only picky thing is I find myself tilting my head because I wanna straighten out the steps and not see the crooked space at the top. But maybe that's just me whose picky about that sort of thing.

Beamer said 1038 days ago:

Feels as if this is just cropped to a wide aspect ratio not really composed for it. The foreground stair is tilted and there's too much negative space on the right. THe subject is fine for Cinematic, this image just doesn't feel it for me.

I wonder what he's thinking? There is a cinematic feel to this. The cropping throws my attention a bit. Feels a little too narrow to to bottom. The angle of the stairs and the way they intersect the top of the frame keep pulling my eyes up, away from the guy. Nice light/shadow play.

@ Ana

This is an XPAN shot...

@ Sandy

That is the architecture of the building (funky new age thing) and my slightly off centre shot - the botto, stair was my reference for something to be boring and 180 degrees

@ Beamer

XPAN Shot....

A@ George

XPAN shot no cropping...

RichardFord said 1038 days ago:

For those of you no familiar with XPAN shooting it is the angle of view of a 24mm lens but with the fov of a 45 mm lens. The quality is higher than cropping in a 28mm shot on 135 as the scene is the same as a crop from a 6x7. I have some up some flickr now...

Sorry - because as you may or may not know. Medium format gives a wider view for a given focal length. So you can get wider angles with medium format without the distortion of crazy wide angle lenses......

too much cropping for me. Relevance not evident also.

JeffBiset said 1038 days ago:

so if not cropping, maybe framing a little bit higher ( one step ) ?

RichardFord said 1038 days ago:

@ Jeff framing a bit higher just leaves distracting lights and space to the top. Besides the main is in the centre of the stairs - not at the base or the top.

@ Most people.

I am amazed that everyone thinks this is a crop?

I thought most people are pretty good at knowing what different focal lengths look like with respect to compression and separation. This shot looks wide - but there is no separation or stretching of the elements. So one would then think... Ok this is NOT a wide angle lens. It looks like a 50mm lens. But it is wide? So how can a shot be that wide and look like 50mm still? As it certainly doesn't look like a 24mm.

If not xpan at least guess or hint at stitching... :-s

Great composition and well shot. Lighting is spot on. Well done.

I like the low angle and composition. Nice blueish tone too.
