Well, this was captured a couple of years ago, in Paris, so I don't remember what lens I had on the camera. But I do know that is wasn't my 70-200... so, no, not a long lens.
Thanks for the comment, Richard! I know that you are a really good at street photography, so I value your opinion! :)
And if anyone thinks of the quality, it is scanned from a B&W paper photo (which was developed in my bathroom...).

Subject is great for this Theme, composition speaks more of movie poster, which is fine. Overall, the tonal range isn't strong enough to say Cinematic to me...
Anna said 1036 days ago:
Thanks Beamer! Can you explain what you mean with the tonal range not being cinematic enough?

Nice scene, but I don't like the way the pic was taken. I know I know its a personal thing, one loves it, one hates it, and I am in between.

The blown highlights on the left pull the eye from the "action" of the scene. The blown highlights on his back are just unattractive....

Scanning prints is a cool idea. I saw some nice shots where a photog here in China used a view camera and loaded it with paper and not film and then shot a scene as a 9x9 grid. He developed the paper as normal and then mounted them as a loose 9x9 grid in a large frame. The resultant negative look plus the rest was very cool.
What's this got to do with scanning prints? Well I want to do the same thing and am thinking about how to represent a physical installation in digital form.....
I guess no matter how cool photo sites are they can't replace a good print on a wall in a gallery right?
Anna said 1036 days ago:
You are absolutely right, Richard! I love my B&W photos from Paris and I think that one of the reasons are that I developed them myself. The scanner, espesially mine that are of low quality, can never produce the feeling...
I hope you find a way to do that installation! Sounds really cool!! :)

The style of the photograph itself seems to conflict with the content of the imagery. The people look very modern and slick, and their kiss even looks a little sterile (maybe because you can't see their eyes), whereas the blown out high contrast photo with no bright brights and no dark darks makes it really beg for old-feeling imagery.
Ana said 1036 days ago:
I love how they're just almost touching lips. Nice capture.
Anna said 1036 days ago:
Thanks, Ana! Actually, they were just 'coming up for air'. They were kissing passionately for a long time, and were so sweet that I couldn't resist taking the photo. Love in Paris. :)

It's a nice moment in a theme that, I think, works better in horizontal format. B/W films tend to have high technical merit, which this image does not, so it loses me there. Don't mean to be unkind...it's just an opinion.
Anna said 1036 days ago:
King, I am happy that you think it is a nice moment! :) I am into nature, usually, not a streetphotographer at all... :) The moment was captured in sharp sunlight, so I guess that is a part of the problem. Thank you for the opinion, I see it as constructive criticism and nothing else!

Anna,
I also know now that this was scanned from a print, etc. In case you don't know, I'm still a film photographer (including view camera work) and a great lover of both film and prints...especially when I do it myself.

Straight out of an old romance movie, only with modern fashion! Haw!
I guess if I had to nitpick, I'd have to say it's unfortunate bits and pieces got blown out. Still, can't be helped. It's a great picture otherwise.

I can definitely see this in a cinematic context, but I wish it was taken at a different, more photo-friendly time of day.

Great moment, well captured.

I like the picture. I like the energy. I wish I had that kind of passion in my life these days.
Oh well, off to yell at the kids.

OK...but it looks like it was shot with a long lens. If you are going to capture two people kissing or hugging - you need to get in close so that the viewer doesn't feel like a peeping tom IMHO.
