Thanks. This is an old one of mine. A bit of a sleeper hit. It is TMY2 in D76 1:1, K2 filter and pushed about 15% extra time over that needed for my 640 exposure.. so a 800 dev with a 640 expose. 35/2 on an F80.
Come back and look again in a few hours or tomorrow. Pretty much everyone says that the latter viewings really hit them hard and it sinks in even more.
I have some xpan film drying now that I just finished developing and I hope I can get an actual - this week - cinematic shot up! ;-)
BTW I only shoot film and when I saw this weeks topic - I knew it would be fun. Nothing looks more cinematic (and just flat out nice IMHO) than film.

Well, this is my second look and I agree. Impact is higher. I rated it high in the first place anyway so I am glad I got it right.
I agree about film. No doubt. Unlike others, I am not skillful enough or have the time to shoot film. I regret that big time.

Nice photo, a little dark but impact is big. Why are they kissing/hugging? What happened or will happen?
RichardFord said 1039 days ago:
When I too it - I didn't think much. When I looked at with a loupe - it was "meh". I'll scan it but not a jump out at me.
After I scanned it and worked on it a bit it was OK. I shared it and didn't think much of it. When people started to notice it and go crazy I stepped back and just stared at it for a bit and then all of a sudden I felt a rush of emotion and sadness like a punch to the gut. It is not my favourite photo but it is the most visceral one as far as human reactions go.

@ Kettelarji.. I don't know. This was on the street in Beijing in 2008. They were just standing there. I saw them from a mile away as I walked up. I shot a few frames and walked on. The entire time they never moved.. they could have been statues. In their own world and cocoon.
Maybe a romeo and juliet like problem? Maybe a death? WHo knows. They just stood there like that in that exact brace. No audible sounds of crying, no movement... just a quite "Embrace" which is the title BTW.

"Jorge wished for a car so he and Lydia could make out at Lover's Point like all the other desperate teenagers. Alas the pedestrians on this sidewalk were crimping his style."

I like the idea but perhaps a bit dark (it could also be my monitor) .
RichardFord said 1039 days ago:
@ Regan it is pushed in development to get the high contrast look. The curve does look normal though and all the zones are present. I edited this on a 23 inch cinema display with a basic spyder calibration (a while ago now - but current at the time this shot was done). I often have issues with my high lights blowing out on normal non calibrated monitors. I must say I have never thought about how the blacks look...

Richard it is a wonderful image and the tones are fantastic....

Wonderful! "The last kiss goodbye".
Great b/w and fine grain adds to the atmosphere.
High marks!

Nice photo of a tender moment!

too bad the people are so dark and hidden.
RichardFord said 1039 days ago:
It's about the hands Ana. ;-)

Richard, most of these folks don't speak that language...is that French, or maybe Chinese??

我不知道了

@ Clyde there is also the old pre, shall not be named site, that has helped and I've seen so much and good shots stick. I could see your frame grab from the show and knew it was yours and while I had not seen KPK's before - he does have a style that I know well and can pick out. Jeremy too with his architecture. THen there is Ursula who is just a chameleon of excellence and I can never pin down unless my criteria is just "awesome".

Yep, works very well with the theme.
The scene that everyone has been waiting for and not a dry eye in the theater.

I really like the details you've captured, such as the guy's hand.

Nice capture. BW is good and I like the grain. Would like to see their faces but hey, you can't always get what you want. Good job.
