This image is not what I originally intended. The grave is an hour's drive away, and when I went there this week (I visit weekly), I too this image, wanting to capture the feeling of my heart feeling broken.
Unfortunately, when I returned home I found that I had left my camera on settings that made all the images horribly overexposed. I was feeling frustrated, but played around with PhotoShop to try to salvage something.
So, while I know this is a rough photograph for certain, I decided to try to evoke as best I could some of the feelings of brokeness and loss that I feel. I desaturated the image and pushed up the contrast and tried to get some sort of detail by altering the lighting (albeit I admit not much came through). I sort of feel the processing I did was the best I could do with a horrible overexposed image and tried to evoke a bit of the harshness of the emotion I feel.
I have been working hard to try to submit at least one image each theme, so even though this is not going to be featured, it does allow me to show myself that I tried.
Thank you, Ana, for your comment.

I'm having some trouble with the processing here -

OK, I can understand the relevance, I cannot understand the choice of treatment and composition...

Good on ya mate! I understand your frustration. Now I understand...

Thanks for explaining the story. I would love to see the original photograph somehow. It might even look more of what you were hoping for?
I hate when I forget to fix my camera settings!

All human relationships end in sorrow. This could signify a broken heart or, like The Last of the Mohicans, a broken lineage.
I like to see the shades of meaning that this theme is bringing out.

Perhaps this should be better in color? The composition is a bit odd to me.

I love that you submitted this image Lange. I've been in exactly the same boat: shooting something, later realizing that I didn't capture what I had envisioned, trying to "re-capture" the vision in post-processing, and then posting it, knowing full well that it won't be featured but hoping a few folks will appreciate it anyway.
Nice work!

this is a really great idea...but gosh, not sure what kind of processing was done to it.
