Relevant for sure! The sky and horizon area is so nearly black that the little bit of value that is left just seems like a mistake or a distraction. I would have tried to split tone this to make the sky more present I think. Or just take it all to black>>??

@m4778: I did darken the surroundings. The processing included a healthy dose of a multiply layer in PSE and some local contrast adjustment.

@Beamer: Thanks for the suggestion. Split toning hadn't crossed my mind and I can imagine that an intense dark orange in the sky (with more detail ;-)) might look really nice. All I can say is that liked the result so much that it's been the background pic on my work computer for over a year. I've NEVER kept a pic that long on a computer desktop. I'm in love with the overall balance of everything and the palpable texture of the disappearing sky. That would be lost if taken all the way to black, so I like the split toning idea better. ;-) But as it is, it sits as one of my favorites.

Love the composition and lots of impact but to me it's a little unbalanced with the light on the tracks compared with the sky/horizon

So VERY beautiful of an image!!!! I think it is striking and captivating. I like the brightness of the top of the rails, and the line on the right rail where to sections join together is especially valuable as an added element. The only (small) issue I have is that *to me* the dark background (while beautiful) does not say "beginnings" as much as "end" or "destination". Again though, it is an absolutely beautiful and striking photograph!
